Location:
The site of this invited competition is found in the area of northern Dubai now undergoing city development near the international airport. Dubai is a harbor city on the Gulf of Arabia in the U.A.E. |
| Program: Planned on the 2,300 m2 site were the following: a shopping center (100,000 m2), apartments with varying floor plan layouts (4,600 m2), as well as parking spaces and underground delivery. |
| Concept/Description: The main design criteria for our work was the clear and understandable separation of functions and the creation of an unmistakable identity for the shopping center. The two-story base takes on the form of the site and defines the street boarders. The three five-story apartment towers hover above this pedestal and produce a highly visible and striking image. The resident recognizes his tower as a home, airy, protective and sleek floating above the city. |
